Access Statement
The comfort and safety of all our guests is of paramount importance and with this in mind we hope the following information will be useful when considering your stay with us. If you have any queries that we might help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us as we will do our utmost to facilitate access for all.
The Shirley is an 11 bedroom guest house offering seven standard double en-suites with showers, one superior double en-suite with shower, one superior plus en-suite with shower and two triple en-suites. One of the family rooms has a double bed, a single bed plus an en-suite with a bath and shower combined. The other triple room has a double bed (This is also used as a twin room). All bedrooms are on the first and second floors. There is a dining room and a spacious guest lounge with bar. Our policy of no-smoking applies throughout the building.
Pre-ArrivalThe Shirley is approximately one mile from Torquay railway station and a similar distance from the coach station, which will take in the region of 25 minutes to walk.
It is a 5 minute walk to restaurants, the town centre, harbour/marina and sea front, which is downhill, however, you encounter an incline on your return. A bus service is available close to the property with a regular bus service from the sea front to most tourist attractions.

ArrivalThe main entrance to the property is from Braddons Hill Road East, up a sloping driveway, parking is available for 5 cars. Additional free parking is available on Braddons Hill Road East but only on the same side as the property. Parking on the opposite side of the road is for a 2 hour period only, except after 6pm on Friday until 8am Monday when parking is unlimited.
There are 18 steps up to the property with a seat to rest after the first 6 steps.
Assistance with luggage is available.
There is a ground floor toilet, which has a step up.
Public AreasAt present we do not have a hearing loop.
The bar/guest lounge and dining room are situated on the ground floor. A fridge is available for guests who need this facility for medication.
In the dining room menus are available in large print. Staff are available to read menus for guests with limited vision. Special dietary considerations can be catered for with prior notification, however, life threatening allergies cannot be catered for.
A flight of stairs (14 steps) leads to a half landing and a further (9 steps) to the first floor. Another flight of stairs (9 steps) leads to a half landing and a further flight of stairs (11 steps) leads to the second floor. The Shirley was built in 1880 and has no lift.
RoomsAll rooms have access via a fire door with conventional key. All rooms are carpeted. Showers have adjustable shower heads and are temperature controlled. Non slip shower and bath mats are available. An audible fire alarm is situated in each room, if specific emergency arrangements are required please inform the proprietors. Suitable signage with fire information is visible throughout the property.
